Earlier this week, we experienced a power outage with our data center at Internap. During this short period of time, our customers were unable to access the site. Luckily, it didn't last long and we are back up and running now thanks to our dedicated support team that responded quickly and worked diligently.

Cyber security is, and always has been, a very important issue for us as we continue to grow and meet the demands of a technology-driven society. Nothing is more paramount than the safety of your valuable data. And apparently we weren't the only ones affected, as LinkedIn was experiencing difficulties on the same day and Internap had 3 massive outages earlier this year. Check out these infographics with stats on the importance of cyber security and the impact it can have on small-medium sized businesses.

#1: You're Not As Secure As You Think: Small Business Cyber Security by Veracode

• 72% of the known hacker breaches in 2011 affected businesses with 100 employees or less.
• 60% of small businesses depend on the internet for day-to-day business operations. 85% believe they have taken adequate measures to keep safe from hackers.
• 67% do not use a web-based security service, 61% do not use antivirus on desktops, and 47% do not use security on email services.

#2: America's Small Businesses Must Take Online Security More Seriously by National Cyber Security Alliance and Symantec

• 55% say that the loss of internet access for 48 straight hours during a regular business week would be disruptive to their business - 38% say it would be extremely disruptive.
• 73% of US small businesses say that a safe and trusted internet is critical to their success.
• At the end of 2011, only 18% of cyber attacks were aimed at small businesses. Today, that number has risen to 36%.

• The top 5 cyber threats, as identified by government IT professionals, include malware, phishing, data leakage, hacking and spam.
• As mobile is on the rise, it is now the highest priority for cyber security.
• 58% of people say that the biggest security concern regarding the increasingly mobile government workforce is infrastructure vulnerabilities.

• 50% of SMBs think they're not a target for cyber attacks because they are a small business. Wrong! 73% of SMBs have been victims of cyber attacks. The average annual cost of these attacks in 2010 was $188,242.
• The median cost of downtime for a SMB is $12,500 per day.
• 46% of organizations said social media was affecting the ability to provide cyber security.
