Book Preview: Playspondents by Betty Adamou

Betty Adamou, President and Founder of Research Through Gaming has an exciting book on the way about gamification and it's application to market research.  Her upcoming book is titled "Playspondents: Making Games for Research." Betty is also co-presenting in a webinar with us this Wednesday on How to Design a Gamified Survey. Each chapter of Betty's upcoming book will be covering different topics about using gamified elements in both digital and face-to-face research practices. Her focus of the book emphasizes on the use of narratives, music, sound effects, avatars, feedback systems and rewards in research. She was kind enough to share with us the fourth chapter in her book about Debunking common misconceptions; what using Games for Research is not. This chapter dives into common questions and assumptions of bad things that can happen when using this methodology in research. They work extremely well at promoting certain outcomes, targeting a specific audience, and producing measurable outcomes. Some of Our Favorite Beers at Survey Analytics

With Spring amongst us and Summer just around the corner, we thought it would be a good time to kick back and share with you some of our favorite beers here at Survey Analytics. Like most awesome start-ups, beer is a staple. In fact, we have some pretty rich data on beer consumption in the United States. Back in February, we conducted a study on The American Beer Buyer for Super Bowl XLVIII that you can check out here. We found that 84% of consumers prefer their beer in bottles over cans, 33% prefer ale, and 24% prefer lager. We also learned that home brewing is growing in popularity, as 68% of respondents stated that they are interested in brewing lessons. In addition to the Super Bowl, we also conducted a survey about American drinking habits on St. Patrick's Day that you can read here. 54% of people stated that they prefer to drink beer on St. Patrick's Day, and 49% planned to drink green beer on the holiday. With all of this data on beer consumption, it's only natural that we share with you some of our own favorites. Cheers!

We recently saw a commercial by Cadillac about great companies like Amazon and Mattel that started in garages and it got us thinking about our humble beginnings. Back in 2002, we also started in a garage (pictured on the left) in Issaquah, Washington, a tiny suburb 30 minutes outside of Seattle where our HQ currently exists today.

Feature Spotlight: Badges

In this feature spotlight we are digging into badges. Badges have been used for years to illustrate someone earning a reward or unlocking an achievement. Used by many other companies, most famously by Foursquare, they indicate the attainment of a goal in either a game or a non-game setting. Psychologically, they can be very powerful. Badges can evoke engagement, increased competition, and incentivizes users to keep moving forward. In relation to surveys, this is very valuable. If you have a panel with us, you can create a panel access code and enable SurveySwipe in just minutes. We are all connected in many ways, and it is important to offer a mobile channel to reach your audience at their convenience. With this feature, you may begin encouraging panelists to download the SurveySwipe mobile application from the App Store or Google Play and receive your surveys in a mobile environment and engaging way. You simply have to provide the access code that you set for panelists to be entered right into your panel to begin taking surveys on the smartphone application.

Think of it as a cross-compatible communication of your panel between online and mobile. All information collected from panelists using SurveySwipe to respond is updated in real time and tracked to the panelist's user profiles.
